Hello and happy Monday,
Welcome to Holy Week. We started the week out yesterday with Palm Sunday! I love this whole week because we get to take time to remember what Jesus did for us as He made His way to the cross. I want to spend some time today reflecting on the events from Palm Sunday because I think that it is the perfect way to prepare our hearts for us to remember and celebrate all the other events that took place in Holy Week all those years ago.
Before Jesus was arrested, before He shared the Passover meal with His closest friends, and before He cleansed the temple, Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, and the people praised and worshiped God. The people expected the Messiah to be a king, but He entered on a donkey. The Messiah didn't match their expectations of how He should look and act, yet they still offered Him worship. As Holy Week progressed, the people turned away from Jesus, although they began with praise and worship.
I love this. Praise and worship should be our FIRST response to everything in our lives. Especially if it does not look how we were expecting it to look. If you are on a mountaintop and blessings are flowing into your life, your response should be to bring God praise and gratitude. If you are facing hell on earth, your first response should be worship and praise because God is still with you, He is still over the whole world, and He will not leave you.
It can be easy to resemble the people of Jerusalem, praising God when things are going well, and losing faith when challenges arise. However, I want to encourage and challenge you today to lift your voice in a song of worship regardless of what you are facing! When we sing to God, it is an act of obedience. Singing praises to Jesus in the midst of a battle means we are engaging in spiritual warfare. When we sing of God's goodness and power, even when we do not see it, we invite heaven to invade earth and welcome God into our circumstances.
This Monday of Holy Week, I invite you to pour yourself a cup of tea, turn on some worship music, and lift your voice! Sing aloud in your house, in the car, in the shower, on your mountaintop, or in the valley. Let's invite God into this Holy Week through our singing.
