Hello, happy Monday, and happy St. Patrick's Day!
Today is the perfect day to spend time in God's word and drink some green tea! To celebrate St. Patrick's Day, I will be sipping on gunpowder green tea.
I want to continue our conversation over the next few weeks as we approach Easter about the promises of God that we can take hold of because Jesus went to the cross. We get to lay hold of many things due to Jesus' death and resurrection. We will unpack a few more of them in the following weeks, but I want to talk about one that I really love!
Because Jesus went to the cross, we now have nearness with God.
Before Jesus, the presence of God was only inside the temple, and you had to be one of the high priests to get near to the presence of God. There was a huge curtain that hung in the temple between people and the presence of God. But when Jesus breathed His last breath on the cross, we read that the curtain was torn from top to bottom, signifying that God Himself broke the separation once and for all.
As believers in Jesus, we have been given the Holy Spirit. We not only can come near to God, but God the Spirit lives on the inside of us. We don't have to stay at a distance, or try to clean ourselves up before we go to God. We are always with Him and He will never leave us.
I am always reminded of the nearness of God with little blessings. When I am blessed with a great weekend, adventuring around my city, I am reminded that God is near me and that He wants to bless me with fun things. When I have a great conversation with a friend, I am reminded God is near to me and has blessed me with community. When I am having a hard day and I pray, I am reminded that God hears my prayers and is sitting with me in the hard times.
As you sip some tea today, remember that the curtain was torn for you to be near to God. He is with you and He will never leave you.
Peace and joy, Teajoydailydevotionals
